Believe In Blue and White

orlando magic

Nobody really gave two craps about the Orlando Magic upon entering the ‘08-’09 NBA season. Despite their young and talented nucleus composed of Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, and Rashard Lewis, there were a lot of criticisms made their way that prevents them from being considered among the elite. Easily falls in love with the three-point shot. Not tough enough. No inside presence aside from Howard. No real quality power forward. Weak bench. And the list goes on.

Well, guess what, naysayers? These bunch of soft three-point shooting miscreants just led the league in fewest points allowed, became the only team in NBA history to defeat the Boston Celtics in a Game 7 on their home court, made the Cleveland Cavaliers their bitch in the Eastern Conference Finals, and silenced the haters with their successfully unique style of ball that propelled them to the Finals. Not too shabby a season, I must say.

The Geeks Are Back

Posted in Blogging on June 23, 2009 by digitaldaydream

Hey! Looks like we’ll be returning here after all. After our damn site failed to push through we’ll be going back to our roots. This site was where a short-lived blogging vareer began and by god this is where it would end.

But before we bow out of the blogging world, we shall make new posts and try our best to kick it up a notch. The Geek Revolution will be back in a while…

The Geek Revolution Has Moved!

Posted in Life with tags on July 11, 2008 by ohmygodisuck

Yep, you read right. Starting today (actually, it started a couple of days ago, but what the heck), people will be able to access the latest entries of the Geeks at their new website, http://www.thegeekrevolution.com/. Yes, the need to purchase a domain has been the plan ever since but was only acted upon due to the moderate hits garnered by this pup right here.

So, what would we make of this site? For starters, this won’t be taken down any time soon. It’s been approximately 10 months since this site was conceptualized and fleshed out. To be honest, there were moderate expectations at first, some of which didn’t immediately fall through. However, lo and behold, the site is still up and is continuously garnering visitors everyday. Not too shabby, I would say. Therefore, deleting the site in its entirety is ludicrous.

So there. I’m not really eloquent at saying goodbyes and farewells, even though this is far from being a parting note, but this is perhaps the last entry the site will post for a while. In the meantime, visit the all-new Geek Revolution site courtesy of Peter Man (this man rocks) by clicking here.

The best is yet to come, folks.

P.S. Both Guitar Hero and Triple H still suck.

The Guitar Effect

In his never-ending search for the perfect sound, should a guitarist purchase analog or digital effects?

Ah, the question that’s been running around a guitar freak’s mind. Yeah, this shit has been done ad nauseam on different guitar forums and blogs. However, it is a question that does not present any clear-cut answers. Having played and screwed up gigs using either analog and digital, here’s my take on the topic at hand.

Beginner guitarists are highly recommended to try out multi-digital effects. Assuming that they have an idea of the sound they want but are not sure of which guitar effect to buy, guitarists will definitely learn a lot from using digital effects and browsing through its different tones and cabinets. The advantages of multi-effects are all too clear: the wide range of sounds contained in a pedal, relative inexpensiveness (compared to a complete set of analog pedals), and portability. Also, multi-effects enable beginners to use models of popular pedals and amp settings. For instance, multi-effects have the replicated sounds of a Metal Zone or a Tweed cabinet in their presets, thus allowing beginners of getting their hands on the particular sounds and how to use them.

Life Is A Clay Urn: Review of Agalloch’s “The Mantle”

Post-rock is everything that rock isn’t. Sure, you have the guitars, the drums, and the occasional vocals in the mix, but instead of the vocalist screaming like a banshee, the guitarists dishing out orgasmic leads while doing the power slide, and the skinsman hitting the kit like a drunk madman, post-rock musicians do none of the above. They channel their creative juices in simply crafting and articulating their ideas into sparse instrumentations, uplifting melodies, and epic compositions.

Having gotten used to the rock template, indulging myself into the furrows of rock, whether mainsteam or underground, has given me a sense of delight in the urgency of its performance. Good rock music has every note alive with passion and sensibilities of life, one that is exhilirating in its mystery shrouded by a thick, fuck-you smoke.

However, I cannot explain how something so morose and dead, such as Agalloch’s The Mantle, exude the lifeforce of beauty in such a way that everything its revealed to the listeners in rich grey tones of melancholy and utter sadness.
