WWE’s Big Push

Push, Push and More Pushes

WWE has been going for a lot of pushes lately. With all their top stars going out due to injuries and some showing signs of retiring, they’re forced to create new stars from what they’ve got.

Ohio Valley Wrestling has provided some talent – with Cody Rhodes leading the pack. For those who do not know, Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) is a developmental territory of WWE. That’s where they send newly acquired talents and wrestlers who needs repackaging.

Cody Rhodes has shown much improvement in OVW so they’re letting him stay on RAW. Believe it or not, the reason why he was brought out of OVW so quickly (he was supposed to be brought to RAW early 2008, not now) is because of the entire Chris Benoit tragedy. Vince wanted to show the people that it’s business as usual for the WWE. They thought the best way to do that is by bringing in new talent.

But it’s not all about new talents…

Some of WWE’s mid-card status wrestlers are being given big pushes. That’s why they have ECW. Johnny Nitro has been given a new image as John Morrison. They plan to make John a good champion before throwing him back on RAW or Smackdown – just like what they did to Bobby Lashley.

That’s the same reason why they have The Miz, Boogeyman and Big Daddy V over there. Let’s start with The Miz.

JBL never liked the Miz… ever. That’s why he was never given the push he needed in Smackdown. Smakdown’s head writer wasn’t thrilled about the Miz either. So they gave him to ECW. That for me was the right thing to do. This kid has potential. He just needs to work on his wrestling a bit. With ECW lacking depth in their roster, he’s sure excel over there.

As for the Boogeyman, I guess they just ran out of things for him to do on RAW. This guy could probably take the place of Kane after he retires. He’d be the new creepy guy to look out for. I honestly think his character could go places.

Viscera (who is now known as Big Daddy V) is the latest project of Mr. McMahon. They want to make another “Mark Henry” character. And I do believe Viscera could do it. Problem is, he doesn’t have the microphone skills.

That’s the same problem Matt Hardy has been having. Now you’d see him talking – something he didn’t really do back then. His younger brother relies on his charisma and death-defying stunts. Matt’s a bit old for that. So he’s now training on talking on the mic. He’s been getting a huge pop from the crowd lately so they plan to give the guy a push (as a babyface character).

Watch out for Chris Masters as well. Vince has a thing for pushing big people. For him, big people (especially those with well built bodies) make good wrestlers. We all know that isn’t always the case (take Khali for example, what a huge flop that’s going to be). Anyway, Masters will be given a push – they’re just thinking of something for him to do.

So far those are the people who’ll be getting all the attention. I was going to mention Mark Henry but there are rumors that he’ll be leaving the WWE. He’s not renegotiating his contract (which is bound to expire before 2007 ends). He says he wants to pursue an acting career or something like that. Whether that’s just a renegotiating tactic or not, I don’t know. But if it is true, his match with the Undertaker (who’ll be returning on Unforgiven) would be one of his last with WWE.

More pushes are bound to come soon. Expect that much.
