On The Legend That Is Cosby

2007 December 1

Sorry for the lack of new blogs. You see, all the writers of this site have officially run out of things to rant about. On my part, I have not run into any blog worthy news as of late. What can I say, it’s been quite boring lately.

So I had to get inspiration from where the real news are at… the yesteryears. And my YouTube browsing made me come across a certain name that has been a part of my life in some way. Bill Cosby.

Come on, who hasn’t heard of Bill Cosby? He’s possibly one of the greatest stand up comics ever. And in my opinion, he probably is. He’s been around for decades and yet his name still sounds foreign to the generation of today. Such a shame.

Cosby was able to manage what other stand up comedians couldn’t – make us laugh through non-offensive jokes that had all the swearing and hating filtered out. He’s the most family oriented comedian out there. He’s the Will Smith of the rapping community. It’s stupid for me to compare Cosby to Smith… I know. But think about it. Will Smith is the only rapper I know of who couldn’t say fuck this or fuck that. You get the picture.

The only Filipino counterpart I could think of at this moment would be Pepe Pimentel. You know, the host of Kwarta O Kahon. He’s the most family oriented comedian I’ve seen on the Philippine airwaves.

Now that we got that out of the way, Cosby may had disappeared from the biz but he’s still around. Though I’m afraid he’s on his seventies or something. This guy sure is one funny dude. And his old clips could only remind us of the legacy he’ll be leaving behind. So as early as now, I suggest you all go out there and search for all his videos. I’m sure you’ll love every minute of it.

And while you’re at it, go find yourself a copy of Mitch Hedberg’s CD for a totally un-Cosby like comedy. Let’s just say that it’s better that you know more than one great comic in this lifetime.

interesting blog, mitch is definitely one amazing, off beat comic. it’s a shame he passed away before we could see him truly rise to the fame he deserved. another fantastic comic that’s still around and keeps it relatively clean is nick swardson, who has recently been seen in several happy madison (sandler) pictures.
