And Thank God For Cartoons

At the moment only two things are keeping me happy; Nickolodeon and Cartoon Network. I know, it seems really childish and all but hey, everyone’s a child at heart. And if that excuse didn’t do anything for you then I suggest you try and loosen up.

Anyone could appreciate cartoons. And in this day and age where television can only bring us worthless news like Hilary Clinton crying (everyone does right? who cares?) or Britney’s paparazis getting arrested (seriously? who gives a damn?) I would choose to watch something else, like The Simpsons, who tends to make fun of these issues like I would.

But among all the toons out there, there are those who stand out. Of course the old school toons would rock any other, any day. But we’re living in a new world now and what was entertaining then isn’t really entertaining now. Sky Commanders, The Centurions, G.I Joe, Visionaries… I don’t care who you are and where you’re from, everyone of us had at least followed one cartoon when we were kids.

And I feel like what kids are being “offered” now isn’t as good as how we had it back then. Well, visually, of course the cartoons now are way much better but story-wise? They seem to noy make sense as much. However, that doesn’t mean that they’re not as entertaining.

Take SpongeBob Squarepants for example. Who wouldn’t love Patrick Star’s stupidity, Squidworth’s arrogance, Mr. Crab’s cheapskate personality, Plankton’s unsuccessful attempts on stealing the Crabby Patty formula and SpongeBob’s… well… ok, so I don’t like SpongeBob (I find him annoying) but other people do.

And I’ve always been fond of Samurai Jack. Nevermind the fact that this samurai has an english name and that he wears the same set of clothes despite the fact that it gets ripped on almost every episode. This dude could seriously kick some ass. And it doesn’t matter what you’re made of – he will put that samurai up where the sun don’t shine.

The there’s my favorite as of the moment – The Fairly Oddparents. I don’t know why but I couldn’t help but laugh everytime Cosmo (the green haired fairy. you know, he’s the idiot) pulls off a stupid joke. He’s by far one of the few cartoon characters who could actually hit a one-liner joke right on.

As long as toons like these exist there’s no doubt that there’ll be nothing to stop me from being entertained. But like I said, I wish they had more substance story-wise. But I guess this’ll have to do for now.

  7. At first VideoDoc says hello! He run on your blog very unexpectedly, then took a little of reading and found that, God damn it all nowadays stuff that going on, VideoDoc must agree in many places. Yes, back then somehow those old-school cartoons were so fascinating, VideoDoc means – meeen, who wasn’t sitting near TV box watching Turtles Ninjas, Transformers, Speedy Racer and so on?!
In cartoon network although VideoDoc doesn’t take a look there still found on really amazing episode based story – Samurai Jack.
Well, about TV – to VideoDoc it seems that people (in its largest part and in borders of our Western civilization) get what they deserve. If the only thing that interests is all this stuff about celebrities crippled personal life on which viewers also have an impact in some way , then people will get all this paparaci circus non-stop 24 hours. Sadly, but that’s the way it goes :(
