For those of you who are fans of the Dark Knight, Batman will get the Japanese treatment once again. Batman’s first foray into the world of the Japanese was complements of renowned manga artist Kia Asamiya, the creator of hits like Dark Mobius and Steam Detectives just to name a few. He worked on a Batman manga some years ago which eventually landed him a gig with Marvel and DC. But enough of that, we are here to talk about Batman’s next adventure into Japanese media, which is anime. Batman: Gotham Knight will be a compilation of six stories from different writers with the help of Japanese animators.

This anime will bridge the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Why anime? Why not? The Matrix proved to be successful with the AniMatrix short film. Batman: Gotham Knight will be something like The AniMatrix. But people are still asking, why anime? Batman and animation have gone a long way, and what better way to portray the dark and gritty atmosphere of Batman and Gotham city than anime. If you’ve watched Akira, Witch Hunter Robin, Ghost in the Shell and the likes you would see why anime is the perfect medium for Batman.

Japanese animators always have a way of exaggerating things to a very enjoyable level. From facial expressions, to body movement, and most importantly, the blood, anime never fails to deliver. But mind you, Batman may be made into an anime movie, but don’t expect to see any cute, bug eyed characters walking around. What you will get is the Ninja Scroll type of rendition, blood, guts and all. I’ve always loved Batman, but to be quite frank I never enjoyed the animated series that Warner Brothers released. It was good don’t get me wrong, it just didn’t appeal to me somehow. But now that Batman is going to get the anime make over, I just can’t wait for this movie to come out. It’s actually going to come out two weeks before the release of The Dark Knight.
