MTG Shadowmoor Launch Party(May 3,2008)

i should’ve been writing for the Shadowmoor Sealed event yet i was late for 20 minutes(which sucked..) coz i really hate being LATE!

Launch Party.I was expecting for a LIVE BAND,Dancers???,Beer,Freaks….,Balloons,Cake..err nevermind.

Anyways,as soon as i reached the place..i didnt expect the errr.yeah,akward silence. As if there was an unidentified object that invaded their sacred sanctuary..

in short,THE GEEKS paved way and gave me a grand red-carpet entrance..(NOT!haha)

i even heard one of them saying..”wohoo,a female just landed”.Of course,i made this stinging “i shall kill you with my cuteness” look towards the guy who said that.

I was really insisting to get to the SEALED EVENT Division but the organizers told me that the game’s on its 3rd round already.

So ok,just so my trip to MAGIC-LAND would’nt be a waste of time.I just followed the organizers decision to put me on the DRAFT division..

THE DIFFERENCE of A SEALED EVENT from DRAFT:

1.In a Sealed event,you play for 60 cards(one theme deck) and some boosters.You can control your own color and there are lots of oppurtunities to have a nice draw.

While in the DRAFT division,hmm.it was my first time to play draft cards.i would say it was kinda FUN and more exciting than the SEALED thingy.Fewer cards(45 cards/player).3 booster packs were given to each player and we’re not allowed to open yet as soon as the “head” says GO. We picked one card each turn.For example, the first pack will be passed counterclockwise,the 2nd pack..clockwise..blah blah. until you get 45 cards in yer hand.

New terms i learned:

CONSPIRE- Somewhat like “CLONE”.Err not really,it represents two abilities.You may untap two creatures that share a color with it then you can choose a target to copy whenever the additional cost is paid.

PERSIST- When a permanent is put in the graveyard,if it has no -1/-1 counters on it,return it to the owner’s hand and unto play and it’ll have -1/-1 counters.

Some of the cards i played from DRAFT were mostly COMMON but it kinda help me stay in the game anyway. Like ELSEWHERE FLASK(when it comes into play,you may draw a card and when you sacrifice it,you may choose any basic land card and it’ll be that type of land until the end of turn.), PILI-PALA( an artifact creature, 1/1, Flying, if you pay 2 additional castin cost and untap it,you may add this to your mana pool.), CINDERELLA WRETCH( 3/2, 5 to cast; 4 colorless,1 swamp, tap it and the target player discards a card.You can only play this ability during your turn.Put -1/-1 counters on it and Untap Cinderella Wretch.) i also had some UNCOMMON/Rare cards on my hand that time. My favorite cards were: DROVE OF ELVES(it cant be a target of spells and abilities from your opponent and its power and toughness is equal to the green permanents you control in the game.), SAPSEEP FOREST(it serves as a mana when it comes to play tapped,pay an additional of 1 Forest and tap it,You gain 1 life but this only occurs when you have 2 or more green permanents.

Anyways, i shall reveal more of the cards i had later on(..upcoming magic-related entries)

 

My opponents were accomodating(which is nice) than the players from the Philippines.Filipino Magic Tournament Players are kinda obnoxious and rude.(Sorry guys,just an opinion). Its kinda weird though, there were guys who striked the ff.:

1. “CAN I HAVE A CIGARETTE?” -Well,if you wanna have friends here in NY,start practicing this line.Easy-to-say,Hard-to-do.

2. “YOURE TOO CUTE TO BE IN THIS GAMING ARENA”- Insult? I dont have any idea if he was trying to say “YOU DONT BELONG HERE” or IM JUST CUTE FOR THE PLACE. wahahahaha.

3. “IM TELLING YOU,YOU ALREADY HAVE YOUR OWN FANS’ CLUB in HERE”– err,i went there to play MAGIC.Not the other way around.

4. Most of the guys i met offered me lots of whatyoucallit cheeznesses i cant understand like taking you to the nearest subway,freebies,DATE???,got my number..errr FAR-OUT.

Err to sum things up, I LOST the DRAFT division.That’s fine.Every other day,Neutral Ground holds different events..so..err..
